Reading a famous section of the Bible today, where Jesus ‘had’ to go through a ‘bad part of town’.
If you know Jesus (or the area), you know He didn’t ‘have’ to at all – but He had decided to meet a specific person at a specific time for a specific person.
This person had no idea that He was coming to meet her – nor did she know who He was.
She was a despicable person, shunned by her whole town (likely slut shamed) – a dirty sinner. Yet this is the very type of person Jesus came to save.
He had set a time where He would invade her world as she ‘just’ tried to survive in her seclusion and shame.
Jesus breaks all the cultural norms to let her in on a powerful Truth: He knows her hidden sin – all of it! Far from being condemned by Him, He offers her new, fulfilled, eternal life.
The result? She leaves her means of survival and goes to the very people who hated her, sharing news of this God-Man. The whole town comes to meet Him – and would forever be changed.
There are so many parallels with the way Jesus pursued me…what about you?
Just as the woman at the well had a foreordained appointment with the Saviour – so did I! He purposed to meet me in my deepest valley, in the wilderness at the very cliff and gave more than ‘just’ forgiveness but a whole new life, nature, purpose and destination.
How I long to be as effective as sharing with others as her!
