When the wife’s away…

When the wife’s away…

Today, my wife had some time off to visit family and friends.

My back has been bad, so it was tempting to have a lazy day…

Instead I asked the kids what they thought might bless her for when she returned.
She is always giving so much, and today she would be away for over 10 hours with much driving.

We decided to make a start on the toilet in the ensuite – but could we get it done in time?…

We worked out a quick roster for who would be looking out for the babies throughout the day and got stuck in right after breakfast.

First, a prayer for Sharmini’s day to be blessed and then we all got into digging the large pit for the absorption trench.

And of course the trench to the toilet chamber…

Little N is really starting to take his jobs serious when helping…today, he refused a ‘lesson’ in the Bobcat as he wanted to finish digging his part of the trench. D-dot still happy to sit on dads lap in the machine. And the Big M’s bobcat driving skills are coming along nicely!

Each person had a job to do- in the pit we took it in turns digging for 3 minutes each so we got it done quickly. Bend those knees!

Next came loading the stones, washing, the slotted pipe, sock, more stones then geo matting…

Next came the plumbing fittings as someone else starting on the vent piping.

We also added another chamber to the first toilet location and installed the pedestal inside.

And finished in time for lunch! What a FANTASTIC TEAM!!! I love living & working with these guys (and girl!). We now have two working toilets in the house and a waterless urinal…no more queuing?  🤔🤗👍🏼

But it’s more than that, Sharmini has put up with long periods of an ‘outback dunny’ type drop toilet. Having to walk outside in the rain many times a night while pregnant and even times of no toilet at all. That’s right a shovel and roll of mud tickets. It’s not that I didn’t want to provide the luxuries of our blessed country, but that we have decided to follow where Jesus leads, no matter what. And for much of that journey He has been more interested in our spiritual well being and emotional health than He has our comfort.

We are truly thankful for every part of the journey, despite how hard some of it has been – ALL of it has turned out good for His purpose. Sharmini endured, she persevered – but NO MORE!

Now, less than 10 metres from the bed in a dry, warm house, is a nice, new toilet. Reminds me of a famous verse in the Bible where Paul says he has learned to live with a little and with a lot. We accept whatever God provides and give Him the glory. This house (and now this toilet) really are a gift from Him. As are, of course, the people who will use these ‘thrones’ Laugh

Just look at the excitement of providing a toilet!

What a fantastic way to spend a Saturday – Now showers, Chai Lattes & a Movie…

Work can be fun – even when toilets are involved – can’t wait to see Sharmini’s reaction Gasp

UPDATE:

Sharmini gets in at 8pm – 12 hours after leaving. We manage to keep it a surprise for another ½ hour before the babies get too excited to contain it. Sharmini is sharing about the way God has used the day for her and how she feels so blessed. She has bought a treat of pizza back and a special breakfast for everyone.
But then the babies are talking about the toilet next to the shower….

‘come see mum’, they lead her off and we all start to follow. The hilarious ‘tada’ actions of the Little N as they lead her into the ensuite just add to the joy. The effort & love put into this were well, well received.

Be blessed honey – you truly deserve it…go forth and poop in peace lol.
