Today, I was in more pain than usual due to sickness this week. My head was pounding, feverish & dizzy, it was huge effort just to try & get up to lead the family in devotions.
Typically, someone had arranged to come and pick something up that I could don’t put off so I had a few things to do to be ready. He arrived and I had the feeling I needed to tell him about Jesus. I shared a very short testimony, not much, but about all I could muster. I had a thought that I should have done more, given a Bible, explained more – but it was too much and now he had left – too late!
Or was it?
About 30 minutes later, just as I was preparing to go back to bed to try get well, my wife rings:
“that guy has broken down on Wanneroo Rd”
Seriously? He is a mechanic – *surely* God doesn’t want me to… I know the right thing to do so I message him offering help. A short time later we are getting tools, fuel, batteries whatever we can think of (and some cool drink for him of course) and head down to him.
His battery is flat, the car won’t run and it is clearly a fuel issue. After praying and an hour or so of diagnosis, we figure out the issue is a blown fuel pump which is inside the fuel tank. He takes it out and we put power to it while tapping with a hammer & it comes back to life.
Re-install & still not running we finally hunt down a blown fuse in a gas / petrol circuit that had been added. And now it’s alive – he’s ready to go. This time I share a bit more with him about Jesus and explain that if I had been obedient the first time, he may not have broken down…
I give him a Bible & a couple of tracts, elated, he drives away. I head home to rest, kicking myself for my disobedience, but fully aware it won’t be long until I fail God again. Thankfully, He is supreme and works within my (and all of our) weaknesses and failures.
What a *big* God we serve!
It’s not important who does the planting, or who does the watering. What’s important is that God makes the seed grow. 8 The one who plants and the one who waters work together with the same purpose. And both will be rewarded for their own hard work.
1 Corinthians 3:7-8 (NLT)
Lord, thankYou for Your faithfulness. Please open Mike’s (not his real name) eyes and convict Him. May whatever feeble words I spoke be turned to spirit & life by Your power. Bring others around Him to lead Him into Your Truth. Please help me in my weakness to be obedient at all times, I need You.
