Storm Hits!

This week we have had some pretty strong weather, though today it went up a level!

The wind was so strong I actually made sure people were away from the windows facing the storm: what I envisgaed actually happened…

The large trees I could see through my office window were nearly horizontal and many pieces of debris could be seen flying around, though too fast to make out what they actually were. To say the power in the wind was exciting was an understatement! Lightning simply added to the experience…

As the front passed, a wave of rain and hail went over and the amount of watre that fell in a short time was incredible. All the children were eager to run around it it (!!), though as some have been sick we declined. No hot shower in the house also contributed to that 🙂

A short while later we received a phone call from a concerned neighbour who had seen some big trees down on the next property and had also seen someone’s roof and patio blown clean off.

We decided we should check on our neighbours and found a huge amount of branches snapped off trees, a diesel shed missing, numerous things tipped over or simply gone.

The size of the above tree before the storm was impressive – now just a stalk. The large branches were facing into the wind and had been picked up and thrown clean over the tree – landing 10m away crushing the fence.

We checked on the elderly lady next door and scouted the other neighbours properties – a lot of tree damage, though nothing serious. It was great to be able to put their minds at rest and also tell the elderly pady we would come and chop the fallen tree up for her and remove off her fence.

About an hour later a ranger appeared to check on us stating a mini tornado had passed and they needed to check we were ok. We were in the path of the debris from the roof and shed that had been ripped off.

We are very thankful that all we have is superficial – things knocked over and a bit of extra tidy up.

Co-incidence that I was talking this morning to the kids about situations where people and things couldn’t help & only Jesus could? That He was our fortress. Was this His protection?

One thing is for sure – we are grateful that we listened to Jesus’ teaching and build this house on the Rock!

UPDATE 18:35:
Just got back from helping fill sand bags for the SES for the people whose roof blew off. What a mess! Huge Verandah ripped clean off, ⅓ of the roof completely missing (as are some f

Of the solar panels) and a trail of devastation.
