What is it..
We offer a ministry called Transformation Prayer and at it's core it is focussed, intentional prayer.
While many (including us) have prayed in various forms for years without much result, Transformation Prayer Ministry (or TPM) has been developed around what the Bible states and the workings of the created human mind.
We have found TPM to be Biblically supported, highly effective and reliable while avoiding some of the very common faults and dangers of other ministry techniques.
TPM ensures that you (as the recipient) are in the drivers seat at all times, that the deep seated beliefs are exposed and that God and God alone speaks to these things. This part is vital, as you need to hear from God - not another human! The process also ensures that any problems, events or solutions come from you and are not suggested by anyone else.
While we have been involved in other ministries and techniques in the past, we saw very limited (genuine and lasting) change. We also saw a lot of problems that were created by the different ministry techniques. We believe that the further people go from the words of the Bible - the further they will err - something that this is true in all forms of ministry.
For this reason we have opted to focus on TPM exclusively. We follow it rigorously and believe God can use it to help anyone. This is not just because we have seen Him do so over - but because it uses clear principles based on scripture that give God opportunity to work directly in people's lives. Developed by Dr Ed Smith, this technique was born out of a vast amount of counselling experience and good foundational theology.
Anyone can benefit from TPM - you don't even have to believe in God! Our hope though is that through this ministry you will come to see who God actually is and decide for yourself to follow Him - but there is no pressure. I for one, hated the notion of 'god' religion and the Bible - but this was based on who I thought god was, which was based on the (bad) actions of others who said they were acting on His behalf. But when I found out who He really was, I was amazed!
Prayer
Ultimately, TPM is a prayer session that helps you hear from God in a safe environment, about issues that actually matter.
God’s truth can come in many ways (expanded later) and will bring a lasting change. It is not a religious type prayer nor is it about learned or rote prayers or renunciations.
It will be a genuine connection between you and God in a real and ‘you’ way. You will likely be pleasantly surprised!
Roots
TPM is about getting to the root of the issue at hand.
While many lifestyle teachings and ministries focus on the reactions, feelings and actions that occur on a daily basis, these are rarely the root of the issue.
TPM operates on the principle that what we feel indicates what we really believe. In other words, feelings can be trusted as they indicate what we are actually believing. The process helps you get to the bottom of these beliefs.
True Beliefs
We often have two different beliefs about the same thing - the deeper one being what determines our feelings and what TPM addresses.
For instance you may believe (logically) that a spider is safe, fine and of no real threat. But what do you feel when you see one walking on your hand? In this moment, you will experience emotions based on your true belief about spiders. Do you feel complete peace? Or do you feel scared?
The true belief we hold is not always the logical one and most remain hidden, but they fuel activities that temporarily mask the resulting emotions.
These true beliefs are learned throughout life - often when young in various memories.
Memories
The memories of the past where true beliefs are formed are often not readily available to us. We block them out and for good reason! We don't want to remember or feel what is there... The problem is, these hidden beliefs and emotions continue to affect and direct our lives while they are un addressed.
Because our minds have been designed to work by association, these memories can be accessed in a TPM session.
When we smell a certain smell or visit a certain place, we often remember some related place, time or thing. The same is true with emotions. If we are feeling something today, our mind can easily connect us to events in the past where we felt the exact same thing. it is in these memories where th bulk of a TPM session happens, and where the truth really does set you free.
Truth
The truth in the context of TPM is not a logical truth or mental knowledge. The truth does not come from the facilitator nor from you - but from God in a unique way - in the actual place or time you need it (the memory). It is as if God actually goes back in time with you to your childhood. Sounds freaky - but you are in control and able to stop at any time.
When God speaks to you in a TPM session - it is experiential truth which has a much greater effect than logical truth.
An example of this would be if you told yourself ‘don't get angry when your partner or child does that aggravating thing’ 50 times a day for a week. But then when they do the thing that aggravates you, you still get angry.
But when God speaks to the root of these things, the effects are immediate. The actions of the other person stay the same - but your reaction is gone. Real truth, real change!
You do not have to remember anything, or keep repeating things to try not react, the reaction is simply not there. This may sound too good to be true, but this is what happens.
Timing
This process can take quite some time, especially if you have had a lifetime of false beliefs from certain people or events while growing up. But for some people, especially those with a few (even major or severe) traumatic / abusive events - the changes and healing can come very quickly. Each person is an individual and has an individual journey and we would rather see you free quickly than fill our calendar. Our hope is that we see fast and complete change in key areas - once this has been achieved, we hope too be able to enable you to be able to use the principles on yourself in everyday life and even use them to help others!
Limits
TPM is not meant to replace other vital activities in your walk, nor will it directly change medical conditions. For instance if you have clinical medical depression, TPM will not alter this. It is possible though, that TPM can still address false beliefs that affect someone who is medically depressed. If you are a Christian, TPM does not negate the need for discipleship, Bible study or corporate worship.
Foundation
Everything that happens in a TPM session is based on and judged according to the Bible. We believe that the Bible is God’s Word and that God will speak outside of, but never in contradiction to, scripture.
You do not need to hold to this same belief. For instance, you may believe that the Bible is just a religious book – that's fine. You do not need to be a Christian to receive this ministry, but our hope is that through this ministry you would come to know the risen Jesus Christ. He is the only way to receive forgiveness and eternal life (not religion - please ask us about this if it sounds strange to you!).
If you receive a ‘truth’ that is contrary to the Bible, attention will be drawn to it by the facilitator and the process will continue until you receive God's actual truth. Notes:
Other ministry techniques:
Many ministries use rote prayers or renunciations. They claim that you are trapped by curses from your fore fathers. This is Biblically unsupported and shows poor theology. These prayers do little to get to the root of the problem.
Others use 'prophecy' or 'words of knowledge' to the recipient which introduces a human in between the communication between yourself and God. This is not ideal for a number of reasons. First, the recipient should always be the one interacting with and hearing from God. Second, the minister who feels the need to give 'truth' to people and think they know what people need is actually taking the place of God. They are normally operating out of their own false beliefs, pain, fears or need for acceptance.
Deliverance ministries place the recipient in the clutches and at the mercy of satan - except for certain special prayers and power or anointing that they have. Again this flies in the face of good theology which states that satan is powerless over a Christian since Jesus died on the cross and rose again.
While counselling can be of benefit in certain areas, we have never seen it have the ability to be able to access, let alone address, the root causes of emotional pain. This is not to say Biblical counselling is of no use - quite the contrary: we believe this should be part of your journey, as well as Bible reading and study, Discipleship, Prayer, Worship and other parts of church life. We have seen however, that counselling is of little benefit before the root causes of certain issues are dealt with.
