For ‘Choose Days’ lately (Tuesday’s Jesus Time), the children have been regularly choosing ‘looking at what God made’.
We normally read a scripture about God being the creator – and we challenge the children to find a verse that we haven’t used before.
Then we walk as a family around the property, to a particular place or even to the house / building site to explore Creation.
It’s amazing what we find, it’s always a surprise despite the fact that we spend nearly all of our time on this block and this day was no exception…
We walked down past a Guinea Chestnut trees that we planted as seedlings. They are only about 1m high, though had three large pods on it that we had been watching. Last year there was a single pod that got eaten by the sheep just before it was ready(!).
We planted the seedlings at about 20cm high. We dug a hole about 1m deep, placed chicken manure, compost and some neem seed husk in the hole. We then have largely left them to do their thing apart from giving them water. They have grown fairly quickly, though will be needing some more attention with some more chicken manure and soil microbes soon.
Each day we walk past them we look to see if they are ready, but this morning, they were GONE –
OH NO! Not again!
Was it the 28’s which have been a huge problem recently? The sheep? The disappointment was short lived – I looked on the floor and saw this the empty pod shell – but there were some kernels. In fact, after a quick scrape of the leaves and sand, we ended up with this:
Wow!! – the pod had simply split when it hit the ground.
We kept looking at the many, many trees, plants, insects etc that God made…
Recently we have been blessed with many Pomegranates and both Tropical and Strawberry Guava. Ya UUUM!

Here is our first crop of the Guinea Chestnuts:

I thought it would be fitting for another Jesus Time to talk about Adam & Eve in the garden and how God was happy for them to eat ANY fruit apart from one. It is impossible to imagine how many amazing fruit they would have had – no weeding, no birds eating them, no watering, not even sheep! But they gave into temptation and ate the only one God had said “don’t touch”.
The Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it. But the Lord God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden— except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.”
Genesis 2:15-17
We talked about how God wants us to enjoy His provision so of course we should eat the Saba’s! We ate one raw each and then roasted them on a small gas stove. Much better roasted!

Its amazing to walk through your property and pick something and eat it! Maybe even better to have it drop of the tree and still get to eat!
We have recently picked up from Pecan seedlings around 1.5m high (we already had a seedling from seed) and have a few Macadamia trees that we purchased and dug out of a fully established orchard.
We just have to remember – you are what you eat!
Conclusion: God’s provision comes in many forms, shapes and tastes – and is always good for you.
PRAYER: Lord, may we recognise Your provision and enjoy it. Thank You for providing for us, despite the fact that we often don’t know or acknowledge it – and definitely don’t deserve it! And thank You for the provision You have made for us to be forgiven, thanks to what Jesus did.
